The Founding Fathers did not invent this priceless boon of individual freedom and respect for the dignity of man. That great gift to mankind sprang from the Creator and not from government. But the Founding Fathers with superb genius, I believe, welded together certain safeguards which we must to the very limit, protect, always if we would preserve the blessings of freedom. (Ezra Taft Benson, 22 October 1954, Brigham Young University Speeches of the Year)
I do believe that now is a time to choose your side, Freedom and Liberty or Tyranny and Government Control of all aspects of life. The bible comes to certain times when men like Joshua needed to declare who his master and God was. Many followed as a good leader led in humble obedience to God’s laws of Nature. An evil one would have never gotten the chance to share the many blessings of liberty enjoyed by this group of Israelites.
Alma 46:36 And it came to pass also, that he caused the title of liberty to be hoisted upon every tower which was in all the land, which was possessed by the Nephites; and thus Moroni planted the standard of liberty among the Nephites.
Alma 48:11 And Moroni was a strong and a mighty man; he was a man of a perfect understanding; yea, a man that did not delight in bloodshed; a man whose soul did joy in the liberty and the freedom of his country, and his brethren from bondage and slavery;
Martin Luther needed to declare his vision of freedom of worship as he understood. Patrick Henry also declared his great desire and need for Liberty even at the cost of his life. George Washington in his great Farewell to Congress told of all men having a heart felt and deep need for liberty. Then he warned of “cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government, destroying afterwards the very engines which have lifted them to unjust dominion.” Brigham Young said that “…our national organization originated in the heavens.”
I remember all too well the anger and frustration of my parents when they had to pay for private schools to give their children a chance of true education instead of progressive amoral indoctrination, in public tax subsidized schools, where it had become against the law to pray or discuss the Bible in school. I remember Communist Party members harassing my mother because she was a feisty and religious woman who would not give way to Communist Party ways in Portland Oregon and Los Angeles California. I am told of my Grand Father being beat up by Dairymen union members to force him to join their union. He never benefited from the union he joined by force. I tested fairly high at number 39 to become a fire fighter but after the city of Mesa hired over 60 positions mine was not one because I did not claim a minority status. Freedom and the American way is not found in these situations close to me. Many others have similar stories of freedoms and individual liberties sacrificed for some governmental interference.
I have experienced just enough injustice to really believe that we can and are losing our freedoms. We can do something about it. We must get involved with what is being enacted as laws at city, county, state and national levels. Qualified and willing leaders are needed as are all the activist supporters of good leadership. We need to evaluate what we can do to help make government to work right. A good government, one inspired by God and built on the Ten Commandments needs a righteous and not a stupid and sin filled populace to elect the good men and women as leaders. We need to go back to the basics, repent of our personal and group sins and leave them behind. Then we can be more humble and teachable so we can understand what is needed. God will help a humble people but one who is arrogant and not prayerful will be left to their foolishness. I pray we will not be foolish but will depend on Him whose arm guided and defended the Israelites as they escaped out of Egypt.
