“Boyd K Packer spoke today to Arizona Regional Conference about voting in general and voting for good people of any party and good laws. The only thing he mentioned on how to vote to follow the Apostles was on California’s prop 8 and Arizona’s prop 102. He said these are critical issues both states are deciding and the definition of marriage must not change. He was powerful in his statements but said we do not throw tantrums and become confrontational. He said the Lord’s people need to learn to receive revelation. We are experiencing economic problems around the world in and out of the Church. The Lord’s people live in faith and not in fear. Changes will come and we can be happy.” Lenny Henderson’s notes 2 Nov. 2008
We were all younger and smaller in this Mesa Arizona Temple photo of our family. We all love each other and hope for the best. The wisest of our family pray for guidance and study the scriptures to gain instructions. We are blessed very much and can say the Church leaders speak wisely and timely about the important issues we face individually and as families. Faith does have so very much to do with living happily, and God does find joy in our happiness.
“Adam fell that man might be; and men are, that they might have joy. And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God hath given.” 2 Nephi 2:25 & 26
There are many layers to this small scripture and I only want to point out that we can be happy best when we are free. Obedience to the gospel helps us to be free and Freedom is needed for true accountability. The deceit that surrounds our political scene is a true snare to freedom because it hides the truth of good and evil and the differences that do exist in this life. “Any way the wind blows” is a very dangerous line in a very skillfully written popular song from 1975. Michael Ballam can tell you more about the power of song, and the truth or lies it can spread. That is another post. Suffice it to say that we must seek after inspiration from Prayer and Scripture study and applying the inspiration to serve the Lord well if we want to have true happiness and security in this and the eternal life we are involved in.
